I keep getting more and more behind with this blog! I almost decided to quit writing it but it's a great way for anyone interested to keep in touch. So here's our overdue update!
McKenna is now 20 months and she will be 21 months on Feb. 14th! I can't believe that her big 2nd year bday is around the corner.
McKenna is a chatterbox and I can't even keep up with her words and phrases anymore. My last count around 18 - 19 months was close to 70 plus words so you can imagine how much it's grown since then. She still signs some functional words but usually says the word with a sign. I truly think the signing helped her speech development along with all the books that we read!
McKenna already knows some letters, numbers, and colors! She gets green, red, blue, and purple correct when identifying them most times but she also gets in a mood when she calls any color her favorite of the moment, often it's green!
She's attempting to jump and will sometimes get both feet up in the air on her new toddler trampoline, but on the floor she tries but just gets one foot off the ground.
McKenna is still very social and I've noticed her really trying to interact with older kids especially. We went to the library and she got soo excited when a family of 4 kids came in. Sometimes she says "hi" and other times she just squeals excitedly until a child notices her! Poor thing, sometimes the older kids aren't interested in a squealing 20 mth old! I've really been working with her to say "hi" and even say her name. We've been practicing tapping out her name on some of the hand drums that we have and she loves that game! She's actually gotten pretty good at saying her name and will get all the syllables in if you prompt her slowly, especially tapping it out on the drum. Sometimes it still comes out as "Kenna" but she's trying!
She loves to sing and really is finding her voice! She's gotten really good at filling in the blank to familiar songs such as "twinkle, twinkle", "Mr. Sun", etc. A new favorite is dancing to classical music, especially with Daddy at the end of the day! We have a digital piano with pre-recorded songs on it and McKenna loves for us to play the songs so she can dance to them. Her favorite dancing song is Clair de lune! She also loves it when I play the piano, although I sound nothing like the recordings! Sometimes, I'll play "ABC's" or "Twinkle, Twinkle" 10 times in row and she keeps asking for more. I have a bunch of Wee Sing songbooks so I play songs out those books for her and she will sit in my lap and try to play herself. She loves the guitar too and is constantly asking for it saying "tar, tar".
