McKenna's 9 Month Update

Our sweet McKenna turned 9 months old on Valentine's Day!  It was such a beautiful day so we had fun taking pictures outside.  I really enjoyed looking back at the pictures that we took and seeing just how much she's changed over the last nine months.

Today we had McKenna's 9 month doctor's visit.  She had a great report from Dr. Barr!  She's in the 50th percentile for height now but still an itty bit weight wise down in the 5th percentile.  Her doctor isn't worried though and said it's normal for kids to dip a little at this age because they are more active (she was previously in the 10th percentile).  McKenna's iron levels looked great and the doctor was pleased with her eating three solid meals a day as well as continuing to nurse 4 to 5 times a day.  We are going to start introducing even more finger foods.  So far she can eat puffs, cherrios sometimes, rice crackers, arrow root cookies, etc.  We've tried bananas, watermelon, and avocado as finger foods but she wasn't too interested in eating them not in a pureed form.  We are going to try some new foods though and see what happens!  McKenna was much more aware of what Dr. Barr was doing to her during the exam today and cried most of the time she was checking her out.  Amazingly she didn't cry after they pricked her toe but she really cried when she got her hepatitis shot.  She was more than ready to go at the end of the appointment and fell asleep before we got home.

Today McKenna clapped for the first time!  Since then, she's been clapping all day long.  I've been working on the signs for more and all done at meal time.  It seems that McKenna has started to understand them and signed all done repeatedly at her physical therapy appointment yesterday and during her doctor's appointment today.  She signed more today for the first time too!  It's so amazing how all of a sudden she gets things.  She still isn't crawling or walking but she sure is trying!  She gets on her hands and knees and rocks and tries to crawl and now keeps ending up in a sitting position.  I find her consistently sitting up in her crib after nap time now!  She is attempting to pull to stand but isn't quite strong enough to do it by herself.  She can balance standing up against something like a toy box or our ottoman for a long time and play not holding on.  She has started to cruise just a little and has no fear letting go!
